D.D. Seaton on Ken’s Think Tank Season 5, Episode 2

When did you realize that you were an artist?

“That is a good question because I think it was after 10-15 years of painting.  Ha Ha!”

“Honestly, I’d been doing it for a long time, and it kind of dawned on me one day . . . Oh!  That’s why I’m so strange!”

“Seriously, I painted for . . . I’m not even kidding . . . like 10 years before I even told anybody that I even did it.  It was something that I just did because I was kind of digging into myself and having fun.  I didn’t really expect anything out of it.  Which is kind of the way you should do it actually.”

“Then, one day I bought a digital camera.  The only thing I really had to take pictures of was my artwork, so I took a bunch of pictures of these paintings that I’d been doing.  There we in my bedroom all over the walls and everything.  I started showing them to people like . . . here, check this out.  I’ve been making these paintings.”

“I was expecting to hear things like, wow, that’s really cool.  Man, you should keep that up, or something.  That’s what I was expecting to hear.  I’m showing it to them, and people are like . . . why do you work here?!  What are you doing?!  They’re saying do to Artistville and sell paintings!”

“I heard it over and over and over again.  I’m like, are you kidding me?  And honestly, they were pretty terrible paintings at the time.”

It was like a hobby . . . just exploring your brain.

“Yeah, yeah, it was just something I did.”
